Job Description:The Manager of Purchasing’s core responsibility is to manage the procurement of product for all of our client's divisions while maintaining the proper inventory control.
Skills/Requirements:Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Analyze sales demand and inventory levels of every active sku and determine the correct amount of any needed reorders
  • Forecast sales and initial inventory requirements on all new items based on similar historical data
  • Determine the correct “just in time” inventory purchases utilizing vendor order processing time, in transit freight time, prepaid freight minimums and any special vendor “buy-ins”
  • Maximize product margins by taking advantage, whenever possible, of prepaid freight order minimums from domestic suppliers
  • Directing and personal involvement in the developing of initial and reorder quantities for the companies important direct import programs from China
  • Minimizing the overseas freight expense factor for direct imports by utilizing the largest containers available in China and consolidating shipments, if necessary, to always ship full containers
  • Develop strong vendor relationships that allow us to take advantage of promotions or special deals to improve product margins and give us a competitive edge
  • Work closely with each individual merchandising division to ensure that purchasing is kept aware of every trend, industry information or vendor factor needed
  • Closely monitor all reorders placed by the reorder buyers
  • Training and development of reorder buyers to maintain the highest standards and minimize errors • Ensure that the reorder buyers are contacting every vendor on the status of all open orders and backordered items
  • Maximize the inventory In Stock% for every division with a minimum of 97% in stock
  • Maintain a list of “never out” items for each division and ensure that there is always adequate inventory to never run out
  • Notify merchandising on a timely basis of every cost increase presented by vendors
  • Consult with Receiving/QA departments to resolve product issues such as overages, shortages, damages and the receipt of incorrect product
  • Communicate import container estimated receipt dates to both of our distribution centers, on a timely basis, so that they are prepared to receive them • Keep senior management aware of any issues or supply chain changes that could impact sales, profitability or customer service in a negative way.
  • Establishing and implementation policies and procedures for purchasing, reordering and inventory control that support the company’s strategic objectives

    Required Skills for the position:

  • Proficiency in Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of database management and navigation, Ecometry a big plus
  • Team Leader with solid supervisory skills
  • Strong vendor relationship skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Detail oriented with a bias toward perfection
  • Multi-task oriented, strong organizational skills
  • Dedicated and committed to the company’s vision and goals

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ Years of relevant purchasing/inventory management experience
  • Direct import experience strongly preferred
  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent merchandising experience
  • Multi division with a large number of sku management experience
  • Training and mentoring skills
