2010-02-04 - Manager, Enterprise Data Management Opportunity Open - Stamford, CT
Job Type: Information Technology
Job Status: Closed
Job Description:The Manager, Enterprise Data Management - Product, will lead the design and implementation of a new Product Master Definition and Structure. The incumbent will be responsible for delivering a fully defined Product Master that includes all categorizations, groupings and hierarchies including but not limited to marketing, sales, engineering, web-facing and legal-entity (e.g. D&B).

In addition, the Manager, Enterprise Data Management - Product develops, implements and runs steady-state governance practices for our clients Enterprise data. The job holder leads the development and maintenance of Enterprise Data Governance Practices and Policies and then implements and manages governance programs for up to 2 data domains.

Enterprise Data is defined as the core data needed to run the clients business. It is comprised of Master Data (e.g. Products, Customers/Clients, Equipment/Install Base), Conditional Master Data (e.g. Contracts and Customer specific pricing), Enterprise Reference Data (Types, Codes, etc.), Hierarchies and certain Application configuration code (e.g. within SAP). Data can be considered "Enterprise" if it crosses boundaries such as geographies, business units and processes.

Enterprise Data Governance is defined as the organization and practices that ensure the quality, availability, usability, and security of Enterprise Data. A data "domain" is a grouping of data such as the Customer domain or Product domain. Therefore, by definition, this position will have global accountabilities.

The job entails leading a team of consultants and internal, cross-functional client employees to establish the new Product Master. The job holder will need to bring extensive experience developing Product Masters to bear as individual develops the new Product Master. This will be less of a consensus building exercise than one of education and influence.

The job also entails establishing the data profiling capabilities that will become the foundation for ongoing migration from our current state of disparate systems containing Product data of poor data quality to a transformed Product Master. The job holder will lead a team of consultants and internal, cross-functional client employees leveraging profiling tools supplemented by manual activity in preparation for a major cleansing effort. The job holder will then need to organize and run cleansing activities that meet rigorous metrics in support of our new, transformed enterprise data environment. This will involve leading teams of people charged with carrying out multiple tasks.

Concurrently, the job holder will identify, design and implement interim state process improvements that will ensure Product data integrity for the life of the Transformation project and into the future state.

The job holder will need to drive specific design elements of the Product Master from working sessions with cross-functional subject matter experts and prepare them for consumption by Tech Central development teams.

In addition, the job holder will lead the development of detailed conversion and ongoing integration specifications. Similarly to the cleansing and profiling capabilities mentioned earlier, the job holder we will need to build the capability to run iterations of harmonization and migration processes to ready data for conversion across multiple phases of our projects. The Job holder will then be accountable for delivering a clean cut-over conversion in line with project timelines.

A critical component of the job is to design and manage any temporary processes that need to be put in place during the interim state between project phases. During interim state as well as during steady-state, the job holder will manage the data stewards responsible for the maintenance of Product Data. A key component of this will be to ensure the quality of data from current state to interim state and on through steady-state.

The job holder will engage strategic application development projects ensuring adherence to clients data Enterprise Data Management practices. In addition, the individual will contribute to the requirements gathering, validating the design and provide quality assurance for the data component of deployment. In particular, the job holder will make the determination as to what is considered Enterprise Data, where it will be stewarded and maintained and who will own it. Finally, the job holder will work with all levels of the organization identifying, influencing and guiding business leaders toward data ownership accountability.

Accountable for leading a team that would develop and test the algorithms, execute multiple iterations, and ultimately cut-over a fully converted set of data.
  • Manage the steady-state set of practices and processes for up to 2 Domains to established measures of quality and levels of service (SLAs).
